THE WEnDI METHODOLOGY©

INTRODUCTION

WEnDI is a structured approach or modus operandi for the incremental development of what we at Fountainhead Technologies USA consider to be the single most powerful deliverable for any IT project -- the Functional Specification. WEnDI is a methodology because it is a structured, step-by-step, recursive process.   WEnDI is the mainstay for partitioning new software development in Agile into logical, self-contained iterations when using the Scrum approach. It also provides a checklist of components required for transforming Maintenance tasks logged in Change Management systems, into self-contained Agile iterations. There is no other methodology on the market that will do this. We will mentor your teams in its use.

Workflow Encapsulation & Data Integrity – WEnDI

It is our proprietary methodology and we use it on all client assignments that require the use of a standardized software and system development life cycle process. Client staff will be trained in the use of the methodology.

It provides the modus operandi for creating an effective Functional Specification whose purpose is to cement the link between Requirements and System Design -- a crucial step in the System Development Life Cycle. This approach ultimately ensures a smooth System Implementation and User Acceptance of a system that Users really want and have paid for, delivered on time and within budget. WEnDI makes it mandatory for Users, Testers and Trainers to be involved in a system’s development almost from its very initiation. The Functional Spec created through WE nDI can be easily adapted to create Training Plans, Test Plans, User Manuals and provide input to the Traceability Matrix. The methodology requires concurrent participation of the various groups within the project,, thereby compressing the delivery timeline.

We also market a detailed, documented version of the methodology to clients who may want to internalize it for their IT departments. Please Contact Us for details.

The WEnDI Advantage

Projects that are on a tight delivery schedule and a fixed budget will realize a bigger ROI than others by following the WEnDI method. However, WEnDI could unconditionally be adopted for any IT project.

Approach

The idea that drives our approach is centered on Workflows to be identified and segregated by the application of Data Flow Diagrams (DFDs), a Structured Analysis construct. Let us soothe your nerves right away by saying that an advanced knowledge of Structured Analysis is not required to effectively execute the methodology. But what is required is a good understanding of DFDs.

It is a method that assists in capturing business or office workflows which will result in an unambiguous Functional Requirements Specification. As we all know, the first step towards delivering a successful project is to deliver what the customer wants. The customer’s vision may be based upon something they may have seen in a store window; we all have those visions. But to translate a business vision into a software-driven system, we need to first study current workflows that a client’s staff applies to its daily tasks. Each Workflow if correctly identified in its entirety will consist of many dependent Sub-Processes and Functions.

Most IT projects are governed by the standard SDLC which advocates a serial Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) in which the execution of activities and tasks is consecutive. WEnDI on the other hand allows the project to fast track by engaging players earlier in the game, which allows tasks to be executed concurrently. And that’s where significant savings in time are gained through concentrated effort.
